Real-Time AI Object Detection with Python, OpenCV and YOLO
This computer-vision demo opens your webcam and draws bounding boxes around detected objects. Python and OpenCV capture the video stream, while the pretrained Ultralytics YOLO11 Nano model detects objects and estimates confidence scores.
PythonGitHub source codeHands-on tutorial
How it works
- OpenCV reads frames from your webcam.
- YOLO11 Nano processes each frame to identify objects.
- The application draws labels, confidence scores and bounding boxes.
- Press Q inside the camera window to stop the demo.
What you'll learn
Learn a practical object-detection pipeline, frame processing with OpenCV, pretrained neural-network inference and real-time overlays. The detector is a demonstration, not a security or identity-verification system.
How to run it
Clone the repository, optionally create a virtual environment, run pip install -r requirements.txt, then python main.py. The yolo11n.pt model is downloaded when you first run the app.
The linked repository contains the complete README and current source files.
